Book Review: A Tale Dark & Grimm By Adam Gidwitz

As they say in England, Hallo! Today I'll be doing a book review on one of my favorite books, titled A Tale Dark & Grimm by Adam Gidwitz. This is the first of a new series involving characters from Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm's fairy tales (Snow White, Hansel and Gretel). The second book comes out this month, and it's titled In A Glass Grimmly. This book was up for the North Carolina Children's Book Award, and ranked #2 on the list, being beaten by 20820 votes for The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.

Plot:
The story follows the events before and after Hansel and Gretel were born. The story of their parents includes the fact that, long story short, A prince marries a beautiful princess, gets cursed, and his servant has to slit a horses throat, destroy a cursed dress, and suck three drops of blood from the princesses lip. The man was trialed and punished by death, but told the story of why he did these things, turning him to stone. Then, the princess and prince have two kids, Hansel and Gretel. In order to turn his faithful servant back to a human, the prince, now a king, needs to chop off his children's heads. The children are brought back to life, but think that their parents hate them, so they run away. This leads to them coming to the witches house. You know the story. Well, this book covers what happens after that story. For more, read A Tale Dark & Grimm by Adam Gidwitz.

Review:
This gory, entertaining book makes a great read. It kept me turning the page for hours, and I definitely want a movie within a few years. This book is a great first novel for a new author, Adam Gidwitz, and I definitely want to see more books from him. This was a fairly disturbing yet entertaining novel that was keeping me passing chapter by chapter. By chapter. I can't wait for his new book, a sequel to A Tale Dark & Grimm, title In A Glass Grimmly, coming out September 27, 2012.
